If your power recliner isn’t responding, follow these steps to identify and resolve the issue. We’ll start from the wall outlet and work our way to the recliner.
Step 1: Check the Power Connection
-
Is the recliner plugged in?
- Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working wall outlet.
- If using a power strip or surge protector, confirm it is switched on.
- Try a different outlet to rule out a faulty outlet.
- Is the power cord connected to the power box?
-
-
- Check that the power cord is fully inserted into the power box.
- Look for a green light on the power box (if applicable - some adapters do not have indicator lights).
- If the light is off, the power box or cord may be faulty.
-
Step 2: Check the Connection to the Recliner
-
Is the power box connected to the recliner?
- Ensure the power box is securely connected to the recliner.
- Most of the time, there is a clip that should be fastened properly to ensure a secure connection.
Step 3: Identify the Issue
If all connections are secure and the power box light is on, but the recliner is still not working, try the following:
-
Does the recliner move at all when you press the button?
- If the recliner doesn't move when you press the switch, and you don't hear a humming sound from the motor, the switch likely needs to be replaced.
2. Do you hear a humming sound from the motor, but the recliner doesn’t move?
-
- This usually indicates a motor failure, and the motor may need replacement.
-
Do you hear grinding, popping, or metallic sounds while reclining?
- The mechanism inside the recliner might be damaged or bent and needs replacement.
If Your Recliner Has a Power Headrest that's not working:
-
The headrest is not working, but everything else is.
- The headrest plug may not be properly connected to the power source. There is a cord that comes from the recliner back that needs to be plugged into the recliner base.
-
Is the headrest still not working after checking the connection?
- The headrest motor may have failed.
-
The headrest works, but the footrest isn’t working.
- This likely means the footrest motor has gone out.
